SJLIFE.COM Magazines are here. Please pick up extra copies in the Welcome Centers and on the tables in the lobby to hand out to friends and neighbours. The SJLIFE.COM Magazines have the Holy Week schedule on the inside cover as well as other great information about our church. Lent/Easter season is one of the best times to invite people to church. We need everyone to pick up a couple of magazines and invite people to come to church with them. We are all called to be evangelist by investing in peoples lives and inviting them to church.
Online Giving: The Finance Committee wants to remind you that we are now offering a new way to give online. Automatic or one time gifts can now be made by going to the church website, www.sjlife.com and clicking on the Online Giving button on the left. Online giving will eliminate the need for remembering your check book every Sunday or when out of town for vacation. This systematic and consistent giving helps in budgeting for the numerous needs of our ministries. Online giving…check it out.

A Life-Sized Replica of the Tabernacle Returns:
A few years ago we erected a life-size tabernacle for our church family and the River Region on the front lawn of our church. The tabernacle stayed open 24/7 for several weeks. Hundreds of individuals, churches and schools came from around the Region! This is a wonderful outreach during the Holy Week season. However, this does require a lot of volunteers both in labor, set up and in individuals needed to oversee the tabernacle throughout the day. We also need men who would be willing to be watchmen during the night hours. If you are interested in being a tour guide, training will be held prior to the opening of the Tabernacle to our community. The significance of the tabernacle is so beautiful as the Father lays out for us how to come into a personal and intimate relationship with Him. The Tabernacle was a foreshadowing of our Lord and Savior who was to come!
If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact Janeese at 481-0731 or dcapps@sjlife.com or Pam Miller at momstechnonow@hotmail.com.
Opening of the Tabernacle for our church family will be on Palm Sunday, March 28

Saint James is responding to the urgent need that UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) has to deliver health kits to the area devastated by the recent earthquake in Haiti. All supplies will be brought to the church between now and next Thursday morning. We will then assemble the kits Thursday night, January 28 beginning at 5:00 p.m. until we finish.
You may donate all items needed for the kits or several of one specific item or a number of different items on the list. You may also donate money for supplies and/or shipping the items to Louisiana.
According to the UMCOR website, “UMCOR Supply Kits help to care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. They also help to sustain everyday life by providing basic necessities to people who lack ready access to essential supplies. These kits provide vital support for the work UMCOR does throughout the world. By donating kit supplies or financial gifts to purchase the supplies, you make a direct, tangible difference in sustaining people's lives”
Health Kit Items Value: estimated $12 per kit
Place these items inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag.
1 hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27", No kitchen towels)
1 washcloth
1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
$1.00 to purchase toothpaste (NOTE: UMCOR Sager Brown is now purchasing toothpaste in bulk to be added to health kits before shipping to ensure that the product does not expire before they are sent.)
Important Kit Assembly Information:
All items included in kits must be NEW items.
All emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items-nothing more.
Do NOT include any personal notes, money or additional materials in the kits. These things must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment.
For more information, you can e-mail Scooter Leonard at scooter@sjlife.com or call the church at 277-3037.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This is the covenant service and prayer we shared on December 27th in contemporary worship. Many of you have called and e-mailed requesting a copy. I encourage each of you to print it, sign it and put it in a place that will remind you of the covenant between you and God. I know God will be faithful to His promises. My prayer is that we will be as well in 2010.
In Christ,
Vaughn
WESLEY'S COVENANT SERVICE INVITATION:
We are called to commit ourselves to Christ as his servants and to give ourselves to him, that we may belong to Him. Christ has many services to be done. Some are more easy and honorable, others are more difficult and disgraceful. Some are suitable to our inclinations and interests, others are contrary to both. In some we may please Christ and please ourselves, but then there are other works where we cannot please Christ except by denying ourselves. It is necessary, therefore, that we consider what it means to be a servant of Christ. Christ will be the Savior of none but his servants. He is the source of all salvation to those who obey. Christ will have no servants except by consent; Christ will not accept anything except full consent to all that he requires. Christ will be all in all, or he will be nothing and we confirm this by a holy covenant.
A covenant in Biblical times was...walking through the split lamb (passover)
Let us, therefore, go through Christ, & pray: Invitation to pray on bended knee as able
God you know our hearts and the many things that seek to crowd you out of your proper first place in our lives. We have allowed many idols to reign supreme and/or hold us hostage. Today, we ask you to reestablish your kingdom on earth and let it begin with your rightful reigning in our hearts. Now I ask you to repeat this covenant prayer after me Lord, let me be your servant...under your command... I will no longer be my own... I will give up myself...to your will in all things... I will be satisfied that you...will give me my place and work... Lord, make me what you will... I put myself fully into your hands... put me to doing...put me to suffering... let me be employed for you...or laid aside for you...let me be full...let me be empty... let me have all things...let me have nothing... I freely and with a willing heart... give it all to your pleasure and disposal... AMEN!
